Imprint Coffee Roasting

Imprint Coffee Roasting Interview – February 5th, 2022

Trevor and Christina Leach and their beautiful family!

“Source Ethically. Provide Exceptionally.”

We had the great honor to sit down with this beautiful little family and talk about their passion – coffee.  Not just a normal cup of joe, mind you, Imprint coffee is a sacred thing – it is something that you get when you are having a rough day, a great day, a celebration, or a gift for someone that you love. Or just because you want to treat yourself or others. They also ship their products…check out their website for details.

Wherever we (Kate and Chrissie), have lived in our adult life, we have sought out the best coffee house that there is in our local community.  We were so excited to see Imprint!  We go for the experience.  We go because this is where the locals go!  But the best part is that their most delightful cup of coffee is literally created right here in Sodus, New York!  You just can’t beat that, folks!

We must add here that we did not just sit down with the two owners, their whole amazing family was there.  Their four beautiful boys were all there and so amazingly patient with the time that we took from their mom and papa!  We fell in love with each one of them, for their own personalities that we got to see in this short period of time.

So, let’s get started.

  1. How and why did you decide to go into this business?

We love coffee!

Christina – When my love for coffee started, I was a Barista and I fell in love with the craft of making a beautiful cup of coffee- tasting all of the different kinds of coffee that I could brew.  I was allowed one cup of coffee per shift, and I used to bring my coffee home to Trevor and we would both enjoy it.  We started talking and wanted to learn how to roast coffee-

Trevor – We play music and we found ourselves in coffee shops playing music and free coffee was our payment.  We started talking about learning the art of the roasting the beans.  We started roasting our own beans at home in a popcorn popper just for the love of it.  As a joke we were saying let’s start roasting coffee and the next thing you know, here we are. Soon we were both talking about opening our own coffee shop and we opened our first shop in Illinois, The Nudge.  So, one was for the love of the art of creating amazing coffee and two for the community impact that it could have.

We were drawn to return to our home in Sodus. We have a strong desire to have a positive impact on our community.

On the flip side of this, we also source our coffee.  When we source our coffee from the farmers, we do it in a way that is environmentally and economically responsible.

Imprint – we love coffee, and we want to serve our communities better.

  1. What is the most important thing that you would like people to know about your business?

Trevor -Community. When we started Imprint, it was really just a hobby.  We moved back to Sodus because I had a job offer.  We went to the Farmers Markets- Christina was the face of it and I roasted the coffee.  I did not intend on quitting my job, but I ended up quitting because Imprint became a full-time requirement.  We are here for the long haul, and we want to make a good impact.

Christina – Community was the reason that we opened in the first place – you just can’t have a good coffee shop if no one comes to it!  A huge aspect of this is being able to be involved in the communities’ doing events.  Having the truck has helped us expand that part of it.

Why Sodus? We both grew up here – Sodus is our home.

  1. How did you come up with the name of your business?

The idea of leaving an imprint on our community – the physical and experiential imprint.  But… I had a great conversation while roasting coffee with a friend in Illinois and as we were talking, this green seed that we are roasting has come through months and months of growing, farmers planted these seeds years ago before they could even see the fruit of their labor, and the next thing you know we are stamping our bags and putting our mark on it – it was a really humbling moment for me – this is my print going on to this product that hundreds of hands and hard work have been involved in.  It’s a long process and it is our final print – it was so very humbling for me.

  1. What is unique about your business?

Locally we are unique because we make a great coffee, and we roast it right here.  No one else in Wayne County roasts their own coffee commercially.  We focus on the experience.  We focus on a better experience, a better drink per cup, and that sets us apart.  We have a drive through, but we really love when people come in and experience us.  Our truck also sets us apart.

  1. What makes you most excited about your business?

Christina -Community – We have some great plans in the makes.  I am really excited for expansion plans that we have underway.  I get excited when we get to do fundraisers- events for not-for-profit organizations.  Being able to help make money for other people who are also community involved, I get really excited about this.

Trevor- I am most excited about the people that we have working with us.  All the things that we have from day to day we would not have if we did not have these people fulfilling a role.  Including the two of us, we have 13 people working and 3 are full time.  Without these folks, we could not be able to focus on expansion ideas, or marketing ideas.  I love to do these kinds of things, but without Chris or Victoria, I would not be able to focus on these things.  I just thank everyone that works with us, as it is so important the work that we are doing here.

  1. What is it that you most want people to know about your business?

We’re not here to make money.  That was never the goal.  We’re here for you.
