A 36 minute Interview of Ella Miller Neverless done with Edie Farrington on 9/5/2019.

 

*Ella was born in 1931

* Grew up on N. Fitzhugh St., Sodus Point (after marriage lived in Williamson, now in Lyons)

* Parents were George Miller- delivered ice 1930’s from the Wallington Cold Storage & Laura Miller who was a waitress at the Harris House.

* Maternal grandparents were Charles Sampson who was a boat builder and chief engineer on the Great Lakes’ ships.  He was also in the Coast Guard and Merchant Marines during WWII.  Grandmother was Ella Buys Sampson whose father was Henry Buys, a boat captain and fisherman.

* Remembers school days, friends, Guild Hall, grocery stores, etc….

 

Elaine Gelber Thank you for this interesting interview with my mother! I learned a few things about her, her family and Sodus Point that I never had heard before. One story that didn’t come out in the interview was that she happened to be in the old Sodus Point lighthouse during the attack on Pearl Harbor and then 60 years later on 9/11, when she was volunteering at the lighthouse museum.
