Blooming Blossoms: The cherry blossoms erupted along Lake Ontario yesterday morning at Lake Breeze Fruit Farm Inc. in Sodus, NY (Wayne County). Last year’s brutal spring cost them much of their harvest, that won’t be the case this year. A good spring can yield 400 tons of cherries from the fields here, a spectacular spring could bring close to 800 tons. These cherry trees, 100 acres of them, will be ready for harvest in late July, ultimately sold and used for dessert toppings, filling and baking. As always, thanks to the Debadts boys for letting me hang around their beautiful orchards. Thanks to www.vertigodrones.com for the guidance on flying the Typhoon H Plus.

The Big Surge
The Big Surge: Enjoy 30 seconds of sheer force from Mother Nature today along Lake Ontario at Sodus Point, NY. I could sit there for hours (and often do) just watching and trying to capture this spectacle—it never gets old for me.

The Cherry Field: Remember that cherry orchard I showed you in May with breathtaking blossoms? Well the folks at Lake Breeze Fruit Farms in Sodus, NY are in harvest mode this week at that very same field. I spent some time in the wee hours of this morning watching the incredible process. They have over 100 acres of cherries. A harsh spring took a toll on this year’s crop, nonetheless countless cherries are being shaken from the trees—quite literally. They work from midnight until about 7:00am doing this, immediately getting the cherries from the harvester and into cold water, their fertile fields just feet from Lake Ontario. The cherries will be cleaned, processed and then shipped—ready for dessert filling, toppings, baking, etc.. Farmers work tirelessly, yet it’s a labor of love. Once the cherries are picked and processed, the focus for Lake Breeze turns to the fall and their massive apple orchards.
60 Seconds of Serenity (Sodus Point Sunrise)
60 Seconds of Serenity (#156): Each day I am sharing 60 seconds of nature to help “take the edge off” during these stressful times. Nothing like the sight of an emerging sunrise in the summer. Enjoy 60 soothing seconds from Sodus Point along Lake Ontario. Two and a half minutes sped up to 65 seconds.
