On September 3, 1790 –

The Town of Sodus was established by an Ontario County Court Order. This process was a little different than the creation of most the other towns in Wayne County, which were established by an act of New York State Legislature. Only Sodus and Palmyra were created by the court system. Sodus has the distinction of being Wayne County’s Oldest (and largest) Town.
